Disposable water bottles are disposable for a reason. If they were meant for being used again and again, they wouldn’t have been marketed as disposable. But there are many people who collect these bottles for use later on. Using these bottles, again and again, can actually leach harmful chemicals into the stored water, which can cause health issues.
What Are The Harmful Effects Of Refilling Disposable Water Bottles?
If you continue to fill up disposable water bottles, you could continue to have pollutants leach into your water. No matter how purified it was before you put it, it becomes harmful once the water goes into the bottle. So don’t try minimizing the environmental damage of plastic by refilling them; rather, recycle them. The chemicals that are released from the plastic can actually disrupt normal estrogen levels causing miscarriages, impaired childhood problems, and many more. But again, like everything, the harmful levels of all plastics aren’t the same. But it is better not to use them at all.
Are All Plastics Harmful?
Plastic designated 2, 4, and 5 is the least harmful. Whereas 1, 3, 6, and 7 are most likely to release harmful chemicals. So, even if you are using them, make sure to recycle them if you notice any signs of damage. And plastic designated 5 is the safest to reuse if you are planning to do so. But choosing nonplastic drink containers is the best option, and they will last longer too.
Wouldn’t it be better not to use them at all? Not using them all together will make sure none of the harmful effects happen, but using them can’t ensure that you won’t face the side effects.
